Dan Brinkman joined the Furman athletics department in 1991 as its first athletic academic advisor and over the last 24 years has served as key member of the university’s athletics administration.
In 1993 he was named assistant athletics director for academics. In 2004 he broadened his administrative responsibilities by taking on the department’s compliance duties, and in three years ago was elevated to associate athletics director for compliance and academics.
Brinkman has taken a leading role with his profession’s organization, the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics (N4A), serving as a convention planner and member of the board of directors for six years (2008-13). In 2013 he was honored by N4A with its Distinguished Service Award.
Brinkman graduated from UCLA in 1989 with a bachelor’s degree in sociology. He later earned a master’s degree in education from Mississippi State University, where he also served as an athletic academic counselor.
Brinkman and wife, Teri, have a daughter, Anna, and a son Calvin.
