Nico Merritt, DAT, ATC, SCAT, received his Bachelor degree in Exercise and Sport Science: Athletic Training with a second major in Romance Languarges: Hispanic Linguistics from North Carolina in 2014. He completed his studies by earning a Doctor of Athletic Training from Indiana State in 2017. Merritt completed his Graduate Assistantship from Indiana State working directly with the track and cross-country programs and coordinating medical coverage for the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships in 2014 and 2016 and the Missouri Valley Conference track and field championships in 2016.
Merritt has completed extensive research with endurance and performing arts athletes and has expertise in the training modifications related to injury incidence in distance runners. Prior to joining the Furman Sports Medicine team, he worked as the Head Athletic Trainer for the Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps. He has additional training and credentials in various manual therapy treatment techniques, including Graston and Myofascial Decompression treatment methods. Additionally, Merritt is a certificed Nutrition Specialist through the American Academy of Sports Dieticians and Nutritionists and also has a specialisted Titleist Performance Institute certificaiton in the analysis and treatment of movement patterns and injury trends in golf. His responsibilities include the care of the men's and women's golf teams and the men's and women's cross country and track teams.
