Rod Ojong joined the Paladins' Paladins' coaching staff in February of 2019, assuming coaching duties of the squad's cornerbacks.

"I am really excited to be able to add Rod Ojong to our staff as cornerbacks coach," said Furman head coach Clay Hendrix in making the announcement.  "I met him several years ago and was impressed with him from the start.   He's had some tremendous mentors and comes highly recommended from some of the best coaches in all of college football.    I'm confident he will be a great fit for us in all areas."

Ojong comes to Furman following one season as cornerbacks coach at Austin Peay after serving as a defensive graduate assistant at North Carolina during the 2016 and '17 campaigns.

Prior to joining the Tar Heels' program, he was part of the defensive coaching staff at Memphis that helped the Tigers post a 9-4 record and earn an appearance in the 2015 Birmingham Bowl.

In 2014 he served as an assistant coach at West Georgia with the strong safeties.

Ojong coached the outside linebackers and also served as assistant strength and conditioning coach at Lindsey Wilson College in 2013, helping the Blue Raiders, in only their fourth season of football, finish 18th in the NAIA final poll.

He began his coaching career at Monmouth (Ill.) College, his alma mater, as a student assistant linebacker coach.

A two-year letterwinner who served as team captain for the Fighting Scots, he registered a team leading 104 tackles and All-Midwest Conference honors as a linebacker in 2011, and was a member of two conference championship teams during his playing tenure.

The Brooklyn, N.Y., native was awarded his undergraduate degree in physical education in 2012.
