Hunter Reid is now in his 31st year at Furman, having joined the department as assistant sports information director in 1985.
As Furman’s SID, Reid oversees publicity efforts for the school’s 20 intercollegiate sports, with direct responsibility for football, women’s basketball, and baseball. In addition he serves as liaison to Furman’s Athletic Hall of Fame.
Hired by athletics director/head football coach Dick Sheridan, he was named SID in 1986 and added the titles of assistant athletics director in 1989 and associate athletics director in 2010.
Reid graduated from Presbyterian (S.C.) College in 1983 with a bachelor of science degree and double major in history and business administration after serving as PC’s SID for four years. In addition, he served as sports editor of the school’s newspaper, The Blue Stocking. A one-year stint as assistant SID at Winthrop (S.C.) University followed before he joined the Furman staff.
A native of Madison, Ga., he is married to Jeanne Symmes, also of Madison, and has a son, Alexander.
