Rachael Simpson is entering her sixth year at Furman. She served as the department’s compliance and student-athlete services assistant for two years and was promoted to Director of Compliance and Student-Athlete Development in July of 2015.
Among her wide-ranging duties are assisting in monitoring and educating student-athletes and staff for compliance with Furman, Southern Conference, and NCAA rules, including the areas of camps and clinics, countable athletically related activities, and recruiting.
In addition to managing student-athlete and recruiting records in FrontRush, she advises the Athletic Service Board (ASB) and provides support for student-athlete projects, community service, and production of the end-of-year athletic award banquet. She also assists with coordination of workshops and special events for student-athletes, including the freshmen student-athlete orientation, sophomore information session, junior financial literacy session, senior breakfast, and captains’ leadership meetings.
Simpson serves as the community service contact between athletic department teams, and local organizations and assists with special projects, including student award nominations, guest speaker sessions, and partnerships with community outreach programs. She also is the athletic department’s representative on Furman’s Sexual Harassment and Rape Prevention Committee. In her new role, she also assists student-athletes with career development and life skills education.
Prior to coming to Furman, Simpson spent one year as a compliance assistant at UNC Charlotte. She began her professional career as an eligibility assistant in the student-athlete academic support program at North Carolina State University, her alma mater, in 2012.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in sport management in 2009 and later secured a master’s degree in parks, recreation, tourism, and sport management from NCSU in May of 2013. A native of Charlotte, N.C., Simpson and her husband Garner reside in Travelers Rest with their daughter.
