Greenville, S.C. – Saturday's Southern Conference softball doubleheader between Furman and Mercer, originally scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., has been moved up to an 11:00 a.m. first pitch due to the possibility of inclement weather on Saturday afternoon and evening, it was announced on Friday.
Furman softball team is set to entertain the Mercer Bears in the final series of the regular season this weekend at Pepsi Stadium, and the Paladins will honor their seven seniors between Saturday's games. This weekend's series marks the final regular season contests for
Emme Buzhardt,
Isabella Cear,
Caitlin Goldwait,
Jordynn Lawrence,
Kiley Perry,
Lauralee Scott, and
Lauren Woodall. Perry still holds one year of athletic eligibility, but the first baseman will graduate from Furman in three years.
Furman enters the weekend at 15-34 overall and in a tie with ETSU for seventh place in the SoCon standings at 5-13. The Paladins can finish sixth, seventh, or eighth in the league standings depending on this weekend's results and will open play next Wednesday, May 7, with a single elimination game in the SoCon Softball Championship at Hope Field in Spartanburg, S.C.
Mercer (28-23, 8-9 SoCon) holds a 29-21 lead in 50 previous meeting in the series between the schools. The Bears have won each of the last five regular season series against Furman and four consecutive meetings overall. Furman's last victory over Mercer, a 1-0 decision, came on April 15, 2023, at Pepsi Stadium.
Sunday's series finale is still slated for a 1 p.m. first pitch.
