Furman's Brinkman Receives N4A Distinguished Service Award

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – Dan Brinkman, Furman's Associate Athletic Director for Compliance and Academics, received the Distinguished Service Award at the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics (N4A) awards luncheon this past weekend in Jacksonville, Fla.

In order to be considered for the award, individuals must have held continuous N4A membership for at least five years; must have displayed leadership performance in N4A at the regional or national level, a high quality of which was recognized by the N4A peers; and have provided contributions above and beyond the normal service required by positions of leadership.

Brinkman, who has been a member of N4A for over 20 years, has served as the national convention planner for the past five years.  Beginning in 2014, the N4A will combine its convention with the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).

"The N4A was extremely proud to recognize Dan Brinkman with the 2013 Distinguished Service Award," said Joe Luckey, Senior Associate Athletic Director for Student-Support Services at Cincinnati.  "As N4A Past President and a colleague of Dan's for 18 years, I had the opportunity to witness the tireless and first class work that he provided the organization as convention planner.  Dan assisted our organization greatly during a transition period to NACDA, and his leadership will surely be missed."

A member of the Furman athletic department staff since 1992, Brinkman holds a bachelor's degree from UCLA and earned a master's degree from Mississippi State.  A native of Celina, Ohio, he is married to the former Teri Smith of Tupelo, Miss.
