EDINBURGH, Scotland. -- Furman freshman Allie Buchalski placed 18th with a time of 15:15 as a member of the Team USA junior national cross country team at the Bupa Great Edinburgh Cross Country International Challenge Saturday in Edinburgh, Scotland. Team USA finished second with 71 points in the 4K race, which featured teams from Britain, Europe, and the USA.
"This trip to Edinburgh, Scotland, to compete for Team USA has been a dream come true," said Buchalski after the race. "Not only is the city absolutely gorgeous, but the ability to wear the red, white, and blue is such an honor! Thank you to Furman's Coach Rita Gary for making the trip here and to the rest of the Furman Family for supporting me the whole way and helping me get here. Much love to you all!"
Buchalski, who led the Paladins as the team's top finisher in its last four meets last fall, earned a spot on the All-Southeast Region cross country team after placing tenth with a time of 20:43.4 on the 6K course at the 2013 NCAA Southeast Region Championships.
A native of Johns Creek, Ga., Buchalski was named the 2013 SoCon Women's Cross Country Freshman of the Year after placing second with a time of 17:32.43 at the league championship meet and helping Furman to a conference title, its first since 2000. For her efforts, Buchalski was also selected to the All-SoCon first team and the SoCon All-Freshman Team.
