Hinkle Sets Furman 5,000m Record at Hokie Twilight Meet

BLACKSBURG, VA. -- Freshman Tanner Hinkle recorded a time of 14:21.50 to break the Furman record and place third in the 5,000m to lead the Furman track and field team at the Hokie Twilight Meet in Blacksburg, Va., on Sunday evening.

Hinkle's time was his season best and the fastest mark in the 5,000m by a Paladin in 2014. It breaks the record of 14:25.00 set in 1978 by David Branch.

Rookies Brock Baker, Nate Reich, and Troy Reeder competed in the 1,500m for Furman. Baker recorded a time of 3:50.29 to notch a fifth-place finish, while Reich and Reeder recorded times of 3:55.97 and 3:59.75 for seventh and tenth-place finishes, respectively. 

The NCAA East Regionals will be held May 29-31 in Jacksonville, Fla.
