KNOXVILLE, TENN. -- Sophomore Josh Brickell set a new Furman record in the 5,000m to lead the Paladin indoor track and field team Friday at the Vanderbilt Invitational in Knoxville, Tenn. Brickell placed second with a time of 14:27.02, breaking the former record of 14:29.18, set last season by Tanner Hinkle.
Rookies Aaron Templeton and Frank Lara also competed in the 5,000m, placing 3rd and 4th, respectively. Templeton turned in a time of 14:29.98 in the event, while Lara crossed the line in 14:37.87. The Paladin men's distance medley relay team of sophomores Nate Riech and Brock Baker, freshman Austin Sprague, and senior William Ivey took third place with a time of 10:11.62.
Sophomore Laura Miller placed ninth with a time of 17:17.84 in the 5,000m to lead the Furman women's team on Friday. Freshman Emma Mashburn finished 14th at 17:36.90, while sophomore Bryce Seymour took 18th place with a time of 18:19.14.
The meet will conclude on Saturday. The women's mile run will begin at 10:30 a.m. The final event of the meet, the men's 4x400m relay, is set to commence at 5:30 p.m.
