RALEIGH, N.C. -- Junior Troy Reeder set a new Paladin record in the men's 5,000m, while junior Allie Buchalski broke the Furman record in the women's 5,000m as the Paladin track and field teams opened the 2016 outdoor season Friday at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C.
Reeder posted a time of 13:59.86, the nation's first sub-14:00 5,000m of the outdoor season, to take first place in his heat and 11th overall and break the previous school record of 14:09.61, set by Tanner Hinkle last season. Buchalski won the women's event with a time of 16:11.71, the top time in the nation so far this season, breaking the former record of 16:26.04 set by Sinead Haughey in 2015.
Also in the men's 5,000m event, sophomore Austin Sprague was 29th with a time of 14:17.81, while sophomore Aaron Templeton recorded a time of 14:21.04 for 32nd place. Freshman Ryan Adams took fourth place in the 1,500m with a time of 3:46.32, and junior Josh Brickell turned in a time of 30:36.89 for 41st place among the runners in the first two heats of the 10,000m.
Sophomore Jacquelyn Crow placed 34th in the 1,5000m after crossing the line in 4:34.56, while sophomore Becca Cooley was 95th at 4:50.46. Junior Laura Miller finished 20th in her heat of the 10,000m after posting a time of 35:34.43.
