Sophomore Year (2015-16): Placed seventh in the high jump (1.35), 11th in the 200m (28.54), and 14th in the long jump (4.74) at the JDL Indoor College Kick Off Classic…earned All-SoCon honors as a member of the Paladin DMR team that took second place with a time of 12:12.3 at the league indoor championships…finished 17th in the pentathlon at the SoCon Indoor Championships…placed eighth in the heptathlon at both the Yellow Jacket Outdoor Invitational and the Beynon Catamount Outdoor Classic…also turned in an eighth-place finish in the heptathlon at the 2016 SoCon Outdoor Championships...named to the Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll.

Freshman Year (2014-15): Placed ninth in the 500m (1:25.95) at the JDL College Kick-off Indoor Classic… posted a season-best time of 1:03.55 in the 400m at the Vanderbilt Indoor Invitational… finished 16th with a time of 1:03.62 in the 400m trials at the SoCon Outdoor Championships…named to the Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll.

High School:  Placed among the top six at the state championship meet in the triple jump, long jump, and both sprint relays her senior season…earned regional recognition for triple jump as a freshman and junior…named her team’s track and field MVP…a four-time all-conference selection for track and field…also competed on her school’s softball team, where she was named team MVP as a senior…named team MVP for Avery County’s soccer team her sophomore year…earned 2013-14 All-Conference Scholar Athlete accolades as a senior.

Personal:  Shannon Kia Smith was born on November 8, 1995, in Sheffield, England...daughter of Terry and Sara Smith...father, Terry, competed on the Furman football team from 1980-81 and on the Paladin baseball team from 1981-82 and went on to play professionally in the NFL for the New England Patriots and then with an international league in England…is undecided on her major.
