NASHVILLE, TENN. -- Freshman Mason Coppi turned in a time of 14:41.60 to win the men's 5,000m to lead the Paladin indoor track and field team Friday in the opening day of the Vanderbilt Invitational in Nashville, Tenn. The Paladins placed three runners among the top eight in the event, as rookie Luke Meade was third with a time of 14:52.91, and senior Lee Shearer clocked in at 15:34.39 to claim eighth place.
Junior Austin Chewing finished 27th with a mark of 17-4 in the long jump, while Heather Paget-Brown placed 55th with a time of 27.72 in the 200m. Also in the 200m, junior Shannon Smith captured 56th place at 28.18, followed by rookie Sarah Wilson in 57th at 28.56, and freshman Marry Morrow in 58th place with a time of 29.33.
The meet will conclude on Saturday. The women's 3,000m run will begin at 9:45 a.m. The final event of the meet, the men's 4x400m relay, is set to commence at 5:25 p.m.
