GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman men's cross country team remains the top-ranked team in the Southeast Region, while the Paladin women's team moved up one spot to second place, according to the Week 1 regional rankings released Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The top four spots remained unchanged from last week's preseason poll on the men's side.  The Paladins remain atop the men's poll winning the Furman Invitational on Saturday.  Virginia is still in second, followed by Virginia Tech in third and N.C. State in fourth place.  Eastern Kentucky moved up from sixth last week to fifth in the latest poll.

N.C. State is ranked first in the women's poll for the second-consecutive week.  The Paladins moved up from third place to second following the team's Furman Invitational win on Saturday.  Louisville dropped from second to third, and Eastern Kentucky moved from sixth to fourth.  Wake Forest remained in fifth place.

"The latest ranking has us very excited," said Furman head cross country/track and field coach Robert Gary.  "Finishing inside the top two and automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships is obviously a huge goal for our programs."

USTFCCCA Regional Cross Country Rankings are determined subjectively by a single member coach in each respective region. The regional representative is tasked with weighing returning team strength with current-season results in determining predicted team finishes at the NCAA Regional Championships.
