HIGH POINT, N.C. -- The Furman men's cross country team won the High Point VertCross Invitational Friday at the Ivey M. Redmon Sports Complex in Kernersville, N.C., while the Paladin women's team notched a fourth-place finish.
The Paladin men placed all five scoring runners in the top 20, including junior Ryan Adams, who placed second to lead all Furman runners with a time of 24:38.17 on the 8K course. Sophomore Jake Ogden was ninth at 25:06.29, while rookie Allen Clark turned in a time of 25:24.18 for 15th place. Freshman Trent Mandato placed 17th at 25:25.74, and senior Lee Shearer finished 20th with a time of 25:32.23. Junior Patrick McNamara crossed the line in 26:05.47 for 30th place, and sophomore Thomas Moore was 50th at 26:32.78.
On the women's side, sophomore Jennifer Stephenson led the Paladin with a time of 22:00.51 on the 6K course, placing fourth. Rookie Emily Lane finished sixth at 22:04.89, followed closely by senior Jacquelyn Crow in eighth with a time of 22:09.01. Sophomore Anna Hayden posted a time of 22:43.07 for 21st place, and freshman Anisa Burciaga was 55th at 23:54.32.
The Paladins will compete at the Southern Conference Championships in Spartanburg, S.C., on October 28.
