GREENVILLE, S.C -- Furman women's cross country star Allie Buchalski has been named Furman's ScanSource Student-Athlete Leader of the Month for November, it has been announced.

Buchalski, a senior from Johns Creek, Ga., placed ninth with a time of 19:42.42 at the 2017 NCAA Cross Country Championships in Louisville, Ky., on November 18, earning her sixth-career All-American citation and second cross country All-American award after pacing the Paladins on the 6K course.  She helped the 11th-ranked Furman women, who were making their first-ever team appearance at the meet, to a seventh-place finish out of 31 total teams.  Earlier in the month Buchalski earned All-Southeast Region honors after finishing second with a time of 20:10.4 to help the Paladin women to a second-place finish at the NCAA region meet.

Buchalski was named the 2017 SoCon Women's Runner of the Year after winning the individual title at the SoCon Championship.  She ran as an individual for Furman at the 2015 NCAA Cross Country Championships, where she claimed All-American honors after placing seventh, the highest finish ever by a Paladin cross country athlete at the national meet.  Buchalski also holds All-American accolades for both indoor and outdoor track.

A double major in business administration and studio art, Buchalski boasts a 3.65 GPA and has made the Dean's List each year during her career at Furman.  A member of the 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-America second team, she was voted to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team and named to the Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll and to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team for track and field.

The captain of the women's cross country and track and field teams, Buchalski has served as her team's SAAC representative and was a member of the 2015 FOCUS program through the Cothran Center.  She was inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa and is a recipient of the C. Dan Joyner Leadership Award.  She volunteers at the Greenville Children's Hospital and has served as a summer youth minister at Redeemer Lutheran Church.

The ScanSource Student-Athlete Leader of the Month Award was created in 2015 to honor Furman student-athletes who excel in the classroom, on the field, and in the community.  Buchalski will be honored with the November award at the Furman men's basketball game versus South Carolina State Saturday at 4 p.m.
