NASHVILLE, TENN. -- Freshman Trent Mandato placed third with a time of 14:39.38 in the men's 5,000m to lead the Paladin indoor track and field team Friday in the opening day of the Vanderbilt Invitational in Nashville, Tenn.
The Paladins placed four runners among the top 15 in the event, as junior Patrick McNamara was 11th with a time of 15:03.99, and freshman Allen Clark placed 14th at 15:40.51. Clark was followed by sophomore Luke Meade, who crossed the line in 15:42.57 for 15th place.
Senior Austin Chewning recorded a 21st place finish with a mark of 17-11.5 in the long jump, followed by junior Chad Word in 22nd at 17-9. In the men's 200m, Word posted a time of 24.66 for 50th place, while Chewning was 51st with a time of 25.02.
On the women's side, sophomore Anna Hayden finished 21st in the 5,000m with a time of 18:51.55. Senior Shannon Smith posted a mark of 15-3.50 to take 38th in the long jump, followed by sophomore Reagan Chewning in 39th place at 11.5.75. Freshman Carlen Baran placed 69th with a time of 28.37 in the 200m.
The meet will conclude on Saturday. The women's 3,000m run will begin at 10 a.m. The final event of the meet, the men's 4x400m relay, is set to commence at 5:05 p.m.
