Furman Women Finish Second At Notre Dame Joe Piane Invitational; Paladin Men Take Fourth

SOUTH BEND, IND. -- The 12th-ranked Furman women's cross country team finished second with 80 points and the Paladin men, who rank 28th nationally, took fourth with 140 points Friday at the Notre Dame Joe Piane Invitational in South Bend, Ind.  Eleventh-ranked BYU won the women's meet with 37 points, while the Cougar men, who are ranked second nationally, took the men's race with 23 points. 

The Paladin women placed all five scorers in the top 29, including junior Savannah Carnahan, who finished fourth with a time of 16:47.2 on the 5K course to pace Furman.  Junior Gabbi Jennings was seventh at 16:55.5, and junior Emma Grace Hurley crossed the line in 17:14.0 for 16th place.  Junior Riley Burr finished 24th with a time of 17:21.9, while sophomore Krissy Gear completed the Paladin scorers, taking 29th place at 17:28.7.

Freshman Emma Kuntz posted a time of 17:34.3 for 33rd place, and junior Grace Dwyer finished 67th with a time of 18:01.3.  Sophomore Emily Lane was 70th at 18:03.5, while junior Jennifer Stephenson placed 120th with a time of 18:47.7. 

On the men's side, senior Aaron Templeton claimed fourth place with a time of 23:48.0 to lead the Paladins on the five mile course.  Senior Ryan Adams also turned in a top-10 finish, tallying a time of 24:07.7 to take 10th place, while sophomore Daniel Bernal finished 13th at 24:14.4.  Junior Jake Ogden recorded a time of 24:57.9 for 56th place, and freshman Cameron Ponder concluded the Paladin slate of scorers with a time of 25:04.9 for 61st place.  

Sophomore Trent Mandato crossed the line in 25:08.4 for 68th place, and junior Mason Coppi finished 95th with a time of 25:42.4.  Junior Allen Clark placed 103rd at 25:54.7. 

After an off weekend next weekend, the Paladins will compete at the Queen City Royals Challenge in Charlotte, N.C., on Oct. 12 and at the Pre-NCAA Invitational in Madison, Wis., on Oct. 13.
