Furman Women Remain Second In Southeast Region; Men Move Up To Third

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman women's cross country team remained in second in the Southeast Region poll, while the Paladin men's team moved up two spots to fifth, according to the Week 5 regional rankings released Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The top two teams were unchanged in the women's poll again this week.  N.C. State leads the women's poll for the fifth-consecutive poll, after taking the Southeast Region title in 2017.  The Paladins, who scored a second-place finish at last year's region championships, are second for the sixth-straight poll, after placing seventh at the Pre-NCAA meet on Saturday.  Eastern Kentucky jumped from sixth to third, while Virginia Tech moved up one spot from fifth to fourth.  Duke dropped two spots to fifth place.

The top two spots stayed in the same this week in the men's poll, as well.  Virginia leads the poll for the third-straight ranking period, followed by Eastern Kentucky in second for the second-straight poll.  The Paladins, the reigning Southeast Region Champions, moved up two spots from fifth to third after finishing eighth at Saturday's Pre-NCAA Invitational.  North Carolina leaped from ninth to fourth, and Wake Forest jumped from 11th to fifth.

USTFCCCA Regional Cross Country Rankings are determined subjectively by a single member coach in each respective region. The regional representative is tasked with weighing returning team strength with current-season results in determining predicted team finishes at the NCAA Regional Championships.
