Furman Cross Country Teams Ranked Second In Southeast Region

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman women's and men's cross country team are ranked second in the Southeast Region poll, according to the Week 6 regional rankings released Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The top five teams were unchanged in the women's poll this week.  N.C. State leads the women's poll for the sixth-consecutive poll after taking the Southeast Region title in 2017.  The Paladins, who scored a second-place finish at last year's region championships, are second for the seventh-straight poll after winning their sixth-straight Southern Conference Championship Saturday.  Eastern Kentucky remains in third, while Virginia Tech is again in fourth.  Duke held onto fifth place for the second-straight week.

There was a shakeup in the men's poll, as Virginia dropped from first place to fourth.  Eastern Kentucky moved from second to first, and the Paladins, who also won their sixth-straight league title on Saturday, climbed one spot to second.  N.C. State surged from sixth to third, followed by Virginia, then Wake Forest remained in fifth place.

USTFCCCA Regional Cross Country Rankings are determined subjectively by a single member coach in each respective region. The regional representative is tasked with weighing returning team strength with current-season results in determining predicted team finishes at the NCAA Regional Championships.

The Southeast Region Championships will be held November 9 in Rock Hill, S.C., with the top two teams earning an automatic bid to this year's NCAA Championships, which will be held November 17 in Madison, Wis.
