2015 Southern Conference All-Freshman Team
2016 — Put together an impressive junior season, starting in 50 games before sustaining a broken ankle in a series opening contest at VMI (May 13) while sliding into second base...missed the final nine games...underwent surgery and returned to full-go status for fall practice...hit .318 with six home runs and 28 RBI over his 50-game season...starts came primarily in left field (36) but also included 10 in center field and four in right field...despite missing nine games, still managed to lead the squad in runs (43) and finish second in hits (62)...fielded .982 with only two errors in 111 chances...hit leadoff in 21 games and second in 29 contests...had his 31-game reached base safely streak halted in season opener (0-for-5) versus Fordham...bounced back to go 8-for-15 (.533) with a home run, double, and four RBI over next four games...went 2-for-4 with four RBI, including a walk-off, three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat 23rd-ranked College of Charleston at Latham Stadium (Mar. 15)...walk-ff clout came an hour after Furman’s men’s basketball team got a game winning buzzer beater from Daniel Fowler to clip Louisiana-Monroe, 58-57, in CollegeInsider.com Tournament game — all of which earned Grote and Fowler interviews on ESPN SportsCenter...hit in 25 of 27 games (38x108, .352) from Mar. 24-May 7, including a team best 12 straight games...was named Southern Conference Player of the Week on Apr. 4 after hitting .600 (9x15) with a double, triple, and home run, and scoring eight runs (.684 on base percentage) in four games, including 4-for-4 (HR, triple), four-run performance against ETSU...2-for-4, three-run display versus Clemson also punctuated his strong week...homered in a 2-for-5, two-RBI performance against UNCG (9-7 win)...doubled twice in a 3-for-5 outing against West Virginia (7-3 win), helping key the Paladins to an impressive series win over the Mountaineers...made a diving, full-extension catch to end a frame against The Citadel, helping Furman complete a three-game sweep of their arch-rival — Furman’s first over the Bulldogs since 1968 and first in Charleston since 1964.
2015 — Followed up a strong freshman season with another productive campaign, seeing action in 51 games and earning 43 starts, including 42 in the outfield and one as designated hitter...registered 26 starts in center field, 15 in left field, and one in right field...proved to be especially effective batting leadoff in in 30 contests...hit .304 and produced a squad best .418 on-base percentage...led the team in walks (30)...finished the season with an active 31-game reached-base safely streak...batted .330 (39x118) over the final 31 games, collecting hits in 27 games during that stretch, including 10 multi-hit performances...registered a one-out bunt single in the eighth inning and later scored the game’s only run in a 1-0 win over Xavier...homered twice, tallied four RBI, and scored four runs in a 3-for-5 peformance at Winthrop (12-0 win)...went 4-for-5 and scored four runs versus VMI (12-11 loss)...doubled, drove in a pair of runs, and scored twice in a 3-for-5 display against Western Carolina (12-4 win) in SoCon Tournament action.
2014 — Made the squad as a walkon with an impressive fall practice and went on to fashion a solid inaugural season, earning SoCon All-Freshman Team honors after appearing in 31 games and posting 21 starts, including 18 in left field, two at designated hitter, and one at third base...batted .333 with one home run and 14 RBI...batting average tied for the squad lead with All-SoCon performers Hunter Burton and Greg Harrison...struck out only eight times in 96 at bats...posted a .387 on base percentage...made just two pinch-hit appearances over the first 10 games and hit only .167 (3x18) thru Apr. 11 before catching fire to club .372 (29x78) over the season’s final six weeks...belted a solo home run against North Carolina Central (3-2, 10-inning loss) for his first collegiate hit...in his only start at third base, went 4-for-5 and drove in three runs to lead Furman to a 9-6 road victory over Western Carolina...tallied four, three-hit performances...went 4-for-8 with two doubles and three runs in a rain-shortened two-game series sweep of Wofford...fashioned a 6-for-12 worksheet with three doubles, three RBI, and five runs in a three-game series sweep of Elon...drew a ninth inning lead-off walk and scored ahead of Greg Harrison’s walk-off, two-run home run in the Paladins’ 3-1 SoCon Tournament victory over Appalachian State.
High School: 2014 graduate of South Park High School...baseball coach was Steve Bucci...two-time all-conference and all-state selection...helped lead his team to a WPIAL championship his senior year, which netted him All-WPIAL South honors.
