GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Matthew Quarles pitched a complete game and Jason Costa went 4-for-4 with a home run to power Furman past North Carolina A&T, 7-3, in Sunday baseball action at Latham Stadium.

The win earned the Paladins (10-8) the series victory two games to one over the Aggies (10-8).

Quarles (2-1), a senior right-hander coming off a seven-inning, shutout performance in a 1-0 loss to 20th-ranked Ole Miss last Sunday, allowed a first inning run but then dialed up seven scoreless frames before yielding two runs in the ninth.  He struck out nine and did not issue a walk in registering the second complete game of his career.

Costa, meanwhile, doubled and scored Furman's first run in the second inning to tie the game at 1-1; singled in the fourth; singled again in the sixth and scored ahead of a Sky Overton three-run home run; and finished off his perfect day at the plate by leading off the eighth with a home run — the third of the year by the junior catcher, who scored three runs.

Overton's three-run clout in the sixth, his third round tripper of the campaign, broke open a tie game and gave the Paladins a 4-1 lead.

Carter Grote's RBI double to left field in the seventh made it 5-1, and Landon Kay drove home Grote with a sacrifice fly to extend the advantage to 6-1.

Quarles surrendered only one hit from the second thru the sixth innings and just three hits — all singles — over a seven-frame span.

The Aggies cracked a couple of one-out solo home runs in the ninth before Quarles bounced back to fan A.J. Hunt for his ninth strikeout of the game.

Furman finished with 10 hits while North Carolina A&T, led by Myles Sowell's 3-for-4 performance, registered eight base hits.

The loss was charged to Kaeson Wilson (1-2), who surrendered six runs on eight hits over 6 1/3 innings.
