GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Making its first appearance in Latham Stadium since Apr. 14, Furman returns to action on Friday when it opens a three-game Southern Conference series against Western Carolina.  First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.

All three games will be video live streamed over the SoCon Digital Network, with Tom Van Hoy on the call. There will be no Furman radio or audio live stream of the series.  Fans can also follow the action via StatBroadcast live stats.  Links for video and live stats are available thru

Furman (21-23, 6-9 SoCon) enters the series in seventh place in the SoCon standings, two games behind sixth place East Tennessee State and two games up on eighth place The Citadel.  The Paladins play seven of their final 10 regular season games at home, where they have fashioned an 11-9 record this season.

The Paladins have enjoyed notable success against the Catamounts of late, posting an 11-3 mark over the last four seasons, including a three-game sweep last year in Cullowhee that ignited a 22-8 stretch run that carried the Paladins to a SoCon Tournament runner-up finish.

Furman's starting pitching rotation for the Western Carolina series will take on a different look as senior left-hander Grant Schuermann (3-6, 5.25 ERA) is set to rejoin the trio after missing weekend starts against VMI and The Citadel.  With redshirt junior right-hander Nik Verbeke (4-3, 4.77 ERA) set to go in Friday's opener, Schuermann will get the call on Saturday, and he will be followed by redshirt junior left-hander John Michael Bertrand (4-2, 4.54 ERA) in Sunday's finale.

Schuermann worked 4 1/3 innings out of the bullpen to collect the win in last Friday's 11-5, 10-inning victory over The Citadel.

Freshman center fielder Ben Anderson (.369, 3 HR, 32 RBI) leads Furman at the plate, topping the squad in runs (44), hits (63), triples (6), RBI (32), slugging percentage (.550) on-base percentage (.466) and multi-hit games (19).  His two-run triple in last Sunday's 6-1 series clinching win over The Citadel gave him six triples on the season, tying a Furman record shared with four others: Jeff Burke (1981), Chris Valdes (2000), Adam Etherington (2001), and Hunter Burton (2012).

Furman's Saturday graduation ceremonies will include seven members of the Paladin baseball squad: Hunter Baker (health sciences), Jason Costa (business administration), Brandon Elmy (economics), Sims Griffith (health sciences), Landon Kay (health sciences), Tyler Kimbrell (computer science), and Grant Schumermann (communications).
