GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman center fielder Ben Anderson has been named to the 2018 Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-America Team, it was announced today.
Anderson, a recent first team All-Southern Conference selection, was among a group of six Southern Conference players named to the national squad.
The 5-foot-10, 165-pound LaGrange, Ga., product earned starts in all 52 games and hit .361 with three home runs and drove in 39 runs. In addition to leading the Paladins in batting average and RBI, he also paced the squad in runs (46), hits (73), triples (7), total bases (107), slugging percentage (.530), on-base percentage (.461), and multi-hit games (22), and reached base in a team-best 32 consecutive games in one stretch.
He also fielded .985, successfully handling 133 of 135 chances in the field.
Anderson established a new school season triples standard with seven three-baggers, the last of which came in a 9-4 win over East Tennessee State on May 13.
He was the first Paladin freshman to earn first team All-SoCon honors since second baseman Bob Roma in 1979.
