Appalachian State Blanks Furman, 14-0

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Five Appalachian State pitchers combined to one-hit Furman en route to a 14-0 shutout win Sunday morning as part of the First Pitch Invitational at Fluor Field.

Tyler Tuthill (3-1) worked the first five innings and allowed only one hit, a two-out single to Furman's John Michael Boswell in the first inning, before giving way to the Mountaineer relief corps, which held the Paladins hitless over the final four frames.

Tuthill walked two and struck out six on a day that saw Mountaineer pitching rack up 14 strikeouts.

Appalachian State (5-8) would get all the runs it would need in the fourth against Furman starting and losing pitcher David Dunlavey (1-3), plating six runs on four hits while being aided by three walks, two errors, and a hit batsman.   Dunlavey lasted just 3 2/3 innings and was charged with six runs, four of which were earned.  He walked three and struck out four.

Luke Drumheller was Appalachian State's big bat in the contest, doubling five times, driving in four runs, and scoroing three times in a 5-for-6 performance.

The Mountaineers racked Paladin pitching for 15 hits.

Furman (3-9) returns to action on Monday when it entertains Ohio State at Latham Stadium in a 6:00 p.m. contest that was rescheduled following Friday night's rainout at Latham Stadium.
