CLEMSON, S.C. -- Jacob Hennessy and Brooks Crawford combined to pitch a two-hit shutout to lead nationally 17th-ranked Clemson to 2-0 victory over Furman in baseball action Wednesday evening at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

Anthony Fontana's third inning single and a fourth inning single by Logan Taplett accounted for Furman's two hits in the contest.

Hennessy (3-0) worked 6 1/3 innings to collect the victory, and Crawford followed with 2 2/3 innings of no-hit relief to help the duo face just 28 batters, one above the minimum.

The Tigers scored the only run they would need in the fifth, overcoming a batter's interference double play, with a pair of two-out walks, a stolen base, and a balk to set up a Kyle Wilkie RBI single that scored Sam Hall.

Clemson (25-8) tallied its second run in the eighth against Paladin reliever Eric Taylor, getting a check swing RBI single by Bo Majkowski that drove home Grayson Byrd.

Clemson managed only six hits in the contest after posting only four base hits in a 3-1, Mar. 3 victory over Furman at Fluor Field.

The loss was charged to Nik Verbeke (0-4), whose three walks and a balk in the fifth led to the Tigers' first run.  He worked only 2/3 of an inning before being lifted for Taylor, who pitched 3 1/3 innings, yielding one run on four hits while striking out two.

Paladin pitching recorded seven strikeouts but five walks and two hit batsmen.

Furman (11-21) opens a three-game Southern Conference home series against ETSU this Friday, with first pitch at Latham Stadium set for 6:00 p.m.
