Furman vs. Elon Game Notes

Greenville, S.C. – The Furman men's basketball team will open a three-game road trip when it visits Alumni Gym in Elon, N.C., to face the Elon Phoenix on Thursday.  Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.

Furman will be in search of its first road win of the season after starting 0-7 on the opponents home floor.  The Paladins, 4-11 overall, snapped a six-game losing streak and improved to 1-3 in the Southern Conference with a 69-65 triumph over Wofford on Monday night at Timmons Arena.

After building a 15-point halftime lead against the Terriers, Furman saw its margin trimmed to a single point in the final minutes before senior Bobby Austin drained a three-pointer with 17 seconds to play to help the Paladins secure the victory.  Freshman Kendrec Ferrara poured in a career-high 17 points while fellow freshman Larry Wideman tallied 11 points to reach double figures for the second straight game.

Furman shot a season-best 58.1% from the field, which ranked as the third best percentage by a Paladin team during the past seven seasons.  Head coach Jeff Jackson's squad also converted on 10-of-18 shots from beyond the arc to improve to 4-4 at home this season.

Thursday's game marks the 13th meeting between Furman and Elon with the Phoenix holding an 8-4 series edge.  Elon overcame a 22-point, seven-rebound performance from Furman's Charlie Reddick in last season's lone meeting between the schools on November 30, 2011, to claim a 77-70 win over the Paladins.

The Phoenix notched a 13-point triumph at Western Carolina on Monday night to improve to 9-7 overall and 2-2 in league play.  Lucas Troutman, a native of Belton, S.C., leads Elon averaging 15.1 points and 6.0 rebounds per game.

The Paladins will continue their road swing at UNCG on Sunday before travelling to Spartanburg, S.C., for a rematch with Wofford on January 24.

Each Paladin game will be aired live on 103.3 WOLT-FM and 96.3 WGOG-FM with Dan Scott providing play-by-play and Ron Smith handling color commentator duties.
