Furman Falls Short Versus Elon, 64-60

Greenville, S.C. – Elon overcame a 12-point first half deficit and held off Furman with five free throws in the final 26 seconds to claim a 64-60 victory over the Paladins in Southern Conference men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Timmons Arena.

Furman (6-16, 3-8 SoCon) led 57-53 with under four minutes to play when Ryley Beaumont scored in the paint to cut the lead in half.  After Furman missed three-pointers on back-to-back possessions, Sebastian Koch hit a baseline jumper before the shot clocked expired to even the game at 57-57 with 1:52 remaining.

Senior Colin Reddick converted on 1-of-2 free throw attempts to put Furman back in the lead at the 1:28 mark, but Tanner Samson answered with a basket 20 seconds later to give the Phoenix (16-8, 9-3 SoCon) a 59-58 advantage.  After the Paladins came up empty on a pair of chances on the other end, Koch hit two free throws with 26 second left to up the lead to 61-58.  Stephen Croone scored on a driving layup, but Jack Isenbarger made two free throws and Koch drained 1-of-2 at the charity stripe following a Croone turnover to seal the game.

Furman shot 51.7% in the first half to build a 33-21 lead before Elon capped the period on an 8-0 run.  The Phoneix stretched the spurt to a 15-2 run and took a lead on Beaumont's free throws with over 16 minutes left.  The lead chancged hands four times the rest of the way before Elon took control in the final seconds.

Koch hit 6-of-6 field goal attempts to lead Elon with 19 points while Beaumont and Samson added 15 and 13, respectively.  The Phoenix shot 46.9% from the floor and committed just seven turnovers on the night.

Colin Reddick paced Furman with his second double-double of the season.  The Powder Springs, Ga., native scored 22 points on 10-of-16 shooting and grabbed 11 rebounds.  Charlie Reddick scored 11 points and Croone added 10.

Furman shot 46% and out-rebounded Elon 32-26.

The Paladins travel to Appalachian State on Monday at 8 p.m.
