Greenville, S.C. -- Sophomore Andrew Brown poured in a season-high 20 points and senior Kris Acox added a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds to lead Furman to a 79-46 victory over Navy in men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Timmons Arena.
Brown, a native of Travelers Rest, S.C., made his first seven shots, including six from three-point range, and finished 7-of-8 from the floor as the Paladins shot 59.2% en route to their fourth victory of the season. Furman (4-4) finished the first half on a 19-3 run that was keyed by three consecutive triples from Brown as the Paladins carried a 41-16 lead into the intermission.
John Davis III opened the second half with a three and Devin Sibley scored and completed the three-point play at the foul line to give Furman a 47-16 advantage 1:20 into the period. Navy fought back to within 23 points, but Furman used a 16-4 run late in the second half to up its margin to as many as 36 points en route to its largest margin of victory versus an NCAA Division I opponent since downing Wofford, 91-55, on January 24, 2004, at Timmons Arena.
Furman connected on 12-of-23 three-point attempts and fashioned a 38-25 rebounding edge. The Paladins outscored the Midshipmen 30-18 in the paint, 21-8 on points off turnovers and 16-2 in transition points.
Sibley joined Brown and Acox in double figures with 10 points, while Daniel Fowler contributed nine points, four boards and five assists. Sophomore Matt Rafferty added seven points and eight rebounds.
Furman held Navy to 36.7% shooting, including just 5-of-21 from three-point range. Ryan Pearson paced the Midshipmen (3-6) with 13 points.
The Paladins return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Lynchburg, Va., to face the Liberty Flames. Tip-off at the Vines Center is set for 7 p.m. The game will be stream on the Big South Network and can be heard on FoxSports 1440AM and via the TuneIn Radio app.
