Greenville, S.C. -- Junior Devin Sibley scored a team-high 13 points and senior Kris Acox connected on the go-ahead basket with 5.1 seconds remaining to lift first place Furman to 60-56 victory over Chattanooga in Southern Conference men's basketball action on Thursday night at Timmons Arena.

The victory, which improved the Paladins to 17-8 overall and 10-2 in SoCon play, extended Furman's winning streak to seven games and marked its 15th consecutive home triumph in SoCon action.  Chattanooga fell to 17-7 overall and 8-4 in the league.

After Daniel Fowler pulled Furman even at 56-56 with a pair of free throws with 1:48 remaining, each team committed a turnover on its next possession. With under a minute to play, Chattanooga's Johnathan Burroughs-Cook penetrated into the lane only to have his shot blocked by Sibley. Following a timeout, Fowler fed a pass to Acox, who connected on a jumper in the middle of the lane to give the Paladins a 58-56 lead.

Chattanooga's Greg Pryor took the inbounds pass and raced towards the basket. As he crossed the three-point line and began to release a shot, Furman was whistled for a foul with 0.4 seconds to play. Pryor missed the first free throw forcing UTC to call a timeout. His second free throw bounced off the right side of the rim and Chattanooga fouled Jalen Williams on the rebound. The redshirt freshman drained both free throws to cap the victory for Furman.
Sibley added six rebounds to go with his team-high 13 points, while John Davis III and Fowler tallied 12 and 10 points, respectively. Furman shot 50% (21-42) from the field, including shooting 7-for-17 from three-point range.

Furman held UTC to 45.5% shooting, including a 6-for-19 effort from behind the arc. The Paladins turned 15 Chattanooga turnovers into 16 points and managed a 26-25 edge in the glass.

Burroughs-Cook paced the Mocs with 16 points, while Justin Tuoyo added 13 points and seven boards for Chattanooga.

The Mocs opened and ended the first half with 9-2 runs to lead 39-33 at the break. Geoff Beans scored five consecutive points, highlighted by a three-pointer, to cap a 14-4 Furman run to open the second half that gave the Paladins a 47-43 advantage with 14:17 to play.

Chattanooga tied the game on a Tre' McLean layup with 2:49 left and took the lead on a Casey Jones basket with 2:10 to go before Fowler's game-tying free throws.
