Greenville, S.C. -- Furman placed six players in double figures and connected on 16 three-pointers en route to a 101-48 victory over the Bob Jones Bruins in the Paladins' season opener on Friday night at Timmons Arena.

Senior Devin Sibley, the reigning SoCon Player of the Year and Lou Henson Award Watch List selection, paced the Paladins with 23 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including a 4-for-4 effort from three-point range. Senior Daniel Fowler poured in 15 points and sophomore Jordan Lyons connected on four three-pointers to finish with 14 points, while point guard John Davis III added 12 points. Juniors Andrew Brown and Matt Rafferty contributed 10 points apiece and Rafferty posted a career-high with 16 rebounds in the season opener.

"We started out a little tight, a little nervous early, but we started to guard like we are capable of after the second media timeout and that turned the game around," said Paladin head coach Bob Richey, who picked up his first win at the helm of the Furman program. "We settled for a few threes early, but we knew that shots would fall eventually and they did."

The Paladins (1-0) started out 1-for-9 from three-point range before making 15 of their final 28 treys to finish 16-of-37 from long distance. Trailing 20-16 with under 11 minutes left in the first half, Furman turned up the defensive pressure and used a 26-2 run to take a 42-22 advantage on Sibley's trifecta with 3:08 left in the period.

After carrying a 47-31 lead into the break, the Paladins connected on 66.7% of their second half shots, including 10-of-16 from behind the arc, to outscore the Bruins 54-17 over the final 20 minutes.

Furman shot 52.2% from the field for the game and converted on 15-of-18 trips to the foul line. The Paladins forced 21 Bob Jones turnovers to fashion a 33-12 advantage in second chance points and outscored the Bruins 30-16 in the paint.

Jayson Barnhart led Bob Jones (1-4) with 16 points, while Nate Ellenwood and Justin Matthews added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
