Greenville, S.C. -- The Furman Paladins open the home portion of their 2017-18 Southern Conference schedule on Thursday when they host rival The Citadel in a 7:30 p.m. contest at Timmons Arena.

Thursday's game, the second half of a men's and women's basketball doubleheader at Timmons Arena, will be streamed live on ESPN3 with play-by-play voice Dan Scott calling the action and Bryant Lambert providing color commentary. Fans can also listen to the call on FoxSports 1440AM, via the TuneIn Radio app or through Stretch Audio at FurmanPaladins.com.

Tickets for the game are available at the Timmons Arena Box Office or can be purchased online at FurmanPaladins.com.

The Paladins, ranked No. 11 in the latest CollegeInsider Mid-Major Top 25 Poll, enter Thursday's SoCon home opener at 10-4 overall and 1-0 in the league following an 87-57 rout of VMI on Saturday afternoon in Lexington, Va. Furman, winners in six of its last seven outings, used 29 straight first half points to erase an early deficit and fashioned the spurt into a 54-9 run to take control at VMI. Sophomore Jordan Lyons hit five triples to pace the Paladins with 17 points, senior John Davis III scored 15 points and senior Daniel Fowler netted 12 points to become the 43rd player in school history to reach the 1,000-point plateau.

Devin Sibley, the reigning SoCon Player of the Year, leads the Paladins averaging 15.6 points per game. Davis has added 12.6 per contest, while Fowler and forward Matt Rafferty have contributed 11.5 and 11.4 per game, respectively. Rafferty ranks second in the SoCon averaging 8.0 rebounds per game and leads the league by shooting 64.6% from the field.

Thursday's contest will mark the 208th meeting between Furman and The Citadel with the Paladins holding a commanding 121-86 series advantage. The Paladins have won three straight in the series, seven of the last nine meetings and swept a pair of games from the Bulldogs last season. Furman claimed an 83-68 victory last season in Greenville before downing The Citadel, 99-91, in Charleston on February 4. The Paladins are 70-35 all-time versus the Bulldogs in Greenville.

The Citadel is 5-8 overall and 0-1 in SoCon play following an 81-79 loss at home versus Western Carolina in the SoCon opener for both schools last Saturday. Freshman Tariq Simmons leads the Bulldogs averaging 13.4 points per game. The Citadel has ridden its fast paced offense to a league-best 86.6 points per game this season.

Furman continues its brief homestand on Saturday, January 6, at 4:30 p.m. when it entertains the Mercer Bears at Timmons Arena.
