Rafferty, Paladins Dominate The Paint To Down Southern Wesleyan, 74-57

Greenville, S.C. -- Senior Matt Rafferty connected on all six of his shots from the floor and Furman posted a 44-18 scoring edge in the paint en route to a 74-57 victory over NCAA Division II Southern Wesleyan Wednesday evening at Timmons Arena in the Paladins' final game in the Advocare Invitational.

With the victory, Furman improved to 6-0 on the season for the first time in school history.

Rafferty, who netted 18 first-half points, scored five straight to trigger a 12-2 Paladin run to end the half as Furman carried a 42-32 advantage into halftime. The Hinsdale, Ill., native, who played just 23 minutes on the night, finished 6-for-6 from the floor, 6-of-8 at the foul line and added four rebounds and four assists.

Sophomore Clay Mounce contributed 13 points, five boards, three assists and three steals, while Tre Clark reached double figures with 10 points. Jalen Williams and Mike Bothwell added nine points apiece.

The Paladins shot 50.9% from the field, despite connecting on just 5-of-21 three-point tries, and converted on 15-of-21 trips to the foul line. Furman scored 20 points off of 18 Warrior turnovers and recorded 13 steals.

Lamont Smith paced Southern Wesleyan with 17 points on 5-of-8 shooting from behind the arc, while Jalen Lowery chipped in with 12 points.

Furman returns to action on Sunday, November 27, when it travels to Kimmel Arena in Asheville, N.C., to face the UNC Asheville Bulldogs. Tip-off is slated for 4 p.m. and the game will be shown live on WMYA-TV and streamed on ESPN+.
