Greenville, S.C. -- Freshmen Noah Gurley and Mike Bothwell established new career-highs with 19 and 13 points, respectively, to send Furman to its sixth straight win with a 96-62 triumph over VMI Saturday afternoon at Timmons Arena.

The Paladins, who upped their record to 22-5 overall and 11-4 in the Southern Conference, claimed their eighth consecutive victory over VMI and matched a school record with their 22nd regular season win. VMI dropped to 7-19 overall and 1-13 in the SoCon.

Gurley, 8-of-13 from the field, scored 14 of his game-high 19 points in the first half, while Bothwell came off of the bench to connect on 5-of-6 shots. The Paladins ended the first half on a 15-1 run and held the Keydets without a field goal over the final 6:07 of the period to carry a 53-29 advantage into the break.

Furman made 13-of-19 free throws over the final 20 minutes to stretch its lead to as many as 35 points. Head coach Bob Richey's squad, winners in 16 of their last 17 games at Timmons Arena, shot 53.3% from the field and made good on 11-of-29 three-point tries. The Paladins outscored VMI 40-20 in the paint and posted a 42-32 rebounding edge.

Clay Mounce scored 13 points and Matt Rafferty and Tre Clark totaled 12 apiece to join Gurley and Bothwell in double figures. Rafferty added 10 rebounds to notch his 13th double-double of the season and also registered seven assists.

Bubba Parham led the Keydets in scoring with 16 points on 6-of-13 shooting. VMI connected on just 33.3% of its field goal attempts, including a 9-for-27 effort from behind the three-point arc.

Saturday's win marked the eighth time in the last nine games that Furman held its opponent to 63 or fewer points.

The Paladins cap the 2019 regular season home schedule on Saturday, February 23, at 4 p.m. when they entertain first place Wofford for Senior Day at Timmons Arena.
