Greenville, S.C. - The Furman men's basketball team will close out its regular season with a three-game road trip starting Thursday with a 7 p.m. contest versus Appalachian State at the Holmes Convocation Center in Boone, N.C.
The Paladins, 6-20 overall and 5-12 in Southern Conference play, have won two of their last three games after downing Wofford 67-61 in the home finale Monday evening at Timmons Arena. The win over Wofford gave Furman its fourth victory in its last five home contests.
George Brozos, Furman's lone senior, led the way on Senior Night with 18 points and 10 rebounds while junior forward Alex Opacic added 14 points and 11 rebounds. It marked the second time in as many home games that the pair had both posted double-doubles to lead Furman to a victory.
Appalachian State (16-10, 11-6) has lost back-to-back road contests, but they continue to share the SoCon North Division lead with Chattanooga entering Thursday's game. Senior Donte Minter leads the Mountaineers averaging 14.3 points and 6.0 rebounds per game while freshman guard Donald Sims averages 11.8 points per game.
Furman holds a 42-32 edge in the all-time series with Appalachian State, but the Mountaineers topped Furman 84-66 at Timmons Arena on January 24. Senior Jeremy Clayton made all eight of his field goal attempts to register 21 points and 11 rebounds in the ASU victory. Appalachian State has won three straight and seven of the last eight meetings with the Paladins in Boone.
Following Thursday's game, Furman will get a short break to complete winter term exams before travelling to face The Citadel at McAlister Fieldhouse on February 28, at 7:05 p.m.
