Greenville, S.C. -- The Furman men's basketball team has added University of South Florida transfer Amu Saaka to its list of signees, it was announced on Wednesday by Paladin head coach Jeff Jackson.
The 6-foot-6 Saaka appeared in 29 games and earned five starts as a sophomore for the Bulls during the 2007-08 season. He will have two seasons of eligibility left after sitting out the 2008-09 campaign according to NCAA transfer rules.
"We are very excited about adding Amu to our program," said Jackson. "He adds a physical presence and athleticism for us on the perimeter, but more importantly, he is the kind of young man who will fit well into our program."
As a prep standout, Saaka lettered three times at Columbia High School. He helped his team to a 32-1 record and AAAA state title as a senior in 2006 averaging 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists per game. Saaka totaled 16 points and seven boards per contest as a junior while leading the Eagles to a 23-8 record and state quarterfinals appearance.
Furman returns eight players who started at least five games in 2007-08, including seven who were freshman or sophomores.
