Coaches Select 10 Furman Paladins All-SoCon
GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Five Furman Paladins have been named first team All-Southern Conference by vote of league head coaches, who today announced conference honors that included 10 Paladins.
Named All-SoCon first team were running back Jerodis Williams, tight end Colin Anderson, offensive tackle Dakota Dozier, and defensive end Josh Lynn. Williams was also the league's top choice for return specialist.
In addition, five Paladins were selected to the SoCon All-Freshman Team, including quarterback Reese Hannon, wide receiver Jordan Snellings, offensive lineman Joe Turner, cornerback Reggie Thomas, and snapper Danny LaMontagne.
Williams, a two-time All-SoCon selection, recorded his second consecutive 1,000-yard season, rushing for 1,170 yards and 11 touchdowns this fall to complete his career with 3,097 yards, good for fifth-best in Furman history. Included in his season's work was a career high 239-yard rushing performance in a 45-24 win over Western Carolina, against whom he also returned a kickoff 100 yards on the way to a school single game record 370 all-purpose yards. The Prattville, Ala., product added a second 100-yard kickoff return versus Appalachian State and led all of FCS in kickoff returns, averaging 35.9 yards per attempt.
Anderson followed up his All-SoCon and All-America 2011 season with a solid senior campaign that saw him catch 30 passes for 498 yards. The Dallas, Texas, product's 11 career touchdown receptions are a Furman tight end record, and his 90 catches for 1,541 yards rank second all-time in both categories.
A native of West Columbia, S.C., Dozier picked up his second all-conference scroll despite him missing two games due to knee injury.
Lynn's all-conference tab was the third of his career following second team honors in both 2010 & '11. The Fort Lawn, S.C., product collected 36 tackles, including seven for-loss, and two sacks in 2012 to finish his Paladin tenure with 163 stops. His 10 career sacks rank 10th in program history.
Hannon, a true freshman from Greer, S.C., completed 160-of-260 passes for a Paladin freshman record 1,896 yards and seven touchdowns after taking over starting signal calling duties in the third game of the season.
Snellings, from Atlanta, Ga., was on the receiving end of 19 passes that covered 210 yards and went for three touchdowns, including a 31-yard touchdown connection versus Clemson.
A product of Roswell, Ga., Turner registered over 550 plays and earned eight starts in 2012, seeing action at both guard positions and at offensive tackle.
Thomas, a true freshman, broke into the starting lineup in Furman's third game of the season against Clemson, recording an interception against the Tigers and another pickoff in the Paladins' season finale versus The Citadel. The Abbeville, S.C., native totaled 23 tackles, including a pair of sacks.
LaMontagne, from Snellville, Ga., and another true freshman, fashioned an outstanding first season with the Paladins, successfully handling 98 of a combined total of 99 snaps for PATs, field goals, and punts during the season.
Furman and Appalachian State led all schools with five selections to the all-freshman squad.
