GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman center Eric Thoni has been named to the College Sports Journal Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Freshman All-America Team, it has been announced.
Thoni, a 6-foot, 269-pound redshirt freshman from Orlando, Fla., was among 63 players named to the squad that represents the only all-freshman team in FCS.
He started in 10 of Furman's 11 games, missing only the Presbyterian contest due to injury. He logged 619 snaps and graded out a season high 91 percent on 64 snaps in a 33-28 loss at Appalachian State and registered 10 knockdowns on 58 plays against Elon, a 31-17 Paladin victory.
Thoni's solid work in his first season as a starter helped pave the way for All-Southern Conference running back Jerodis Williams, who rushed for 1,067 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2012.
Thoni is the second Paladin offensive lineman to garner CSJ Freshman All-America honors the last two seasons, following teammate Charles Emert, who was named to the squad following the 2011 campaign.
