GREENVILLE, S.C. -- New Furman head football coach Clay Hendrix will team up with the head coaches of several South Carolina colleges and universities for the eighth annual South Carolina Coaches for Charity fund-raising event tonight at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Greenville.
Set to share the stage with Hendrix are Mike Ayers (Wofford), Will Muschamp (South Carolina), Buddy Pough (South Carolina State), Brent Thompson (The Citadel), and Dabo Swinney (Clemson).
Proceeds raised are split between the coaches' charities. Hendrix's beneficiary is The Jason Foundation, which is dedicated to the prevention of the "Silent Epidemic" of youth suicide through educational and awareness programs that equip young people, educators, youth workers, and parents with the information, tools, and resources to help identify and assist at-risk youth.
Each coach will also recognize their respective 2017 Jerry Richardson Community MVPs. Furman's honorees are John and Jeanette Cothran.
South Carolina Coaches for Charity is sponsored annually by the Fisher DeBerry Foundation, headed up by Hall of Fame and legendary former Air Force Falcons head football coach Fisher DeBerry. The Foundation supports children of single-parent families.
Tonight's event begins with a 6:00 p.m. VIP reception and silent auction, followed by dinner, program, and coaches' live panel and auction.
