GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman head football coach Clay Hendrix today announced the election of four players as team captains for the 2017 season.
Quarterback P.J. Blazejowski, center Matthew Schmidt, nose guard Jaylan Reid, and linebacker Dillon Woodruff have been selected as captains of the Paladins by vote of their teammates.
Blazejowski, a senior from St. Augustine, Fla., is set to take over the starting signal calling duties this year. A three-year letterman, he has seen action in 19 games and made 13 starts over the past three seasons, passing for 2,841 yards and 14 touchdowns while rushing for 541 yards and five scores over that span.
Schmidt, a 2016 All-Southern Conference selection and 2017 preseason all-conference pick, has logged 26 starts and over 1,600 plays in three seasons in a Paladin uniform, working at both tackle and center. He is a senior from Stokesdale, N.C.
Reid, who earned 2017 preseason All-SoCon recognition, has compiled 17 starts over his first two seasons of play. The Marietta, Ga., native is a redshirt junior who compiled 31 tackles a year ago.
Woodruff came to Furman as a quarterback, where he played for two seasons, passing for 854 yards and four touchdowns before making the switch to defense. The last two years the Christiana, Tenn., product has made three starts and tallied 49 tackles.
Furman opens its 2017 on Sept. 2 at Wofford.
