Howell Leads Paladins With Top-20 Finish At John Hayt Invitational

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FLA. -- Senior Bryce Howell (+4) finished in a tie for 20th  to lead the Furman men's golf team Sunday in the final round at the John Hayt Invitational at the par 72, 6,976 yard Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.   

Howell, a native of Blythewood, S.C., carded a 74 with three birdies, including back-to-back birdies on No. 17 and No. 18 to finish the tournament with a three-day total of 74-72-74=220.  Army's Peter Kim (-6) won individual medalist honors after posting a final-round 70 for a three-round total of 210.  

Freshman Keller Harper (+7) tallied three birdies for a 75 on Sunday to tie for 32nd, and junior Hunter Nichols (+11) also added three birdies to tie for 47th after scoring a final-round 74.  Sophomore Connor Bruns (+12) birdied No. 8 and No. 14 in round three, posting a 77 to finish in a tie for 51st, while freshman Stephen Reynolds (+21), who eagled the par-5 No. 18, added two additional birdies to score a 76 on Sunday.

No. 36 North Florida (+7) won the tournament by three strokes over 31st-ranked Jacksonville (+10).  No. 49 UCF (+11) and Campbell (+11) tied for third, followed by No. 33 Liberty (+14), who completed the top five.  Furman (+33) finished 12th.

Furman will compete at the Palmetto Intercollegiate in Aiken, S.C., March 6-7.
