Harper Ties For Fifth To Lead Paladins To Third-Place Finish At Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate

HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- Sophomore Keller Harper (-3) tied for fifth to lead the Furman men's golf team to a third-place finish Tuesday at the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate Tournament at the par 72, 6,913 yard Wexford Plantation course on Hilton Head Island.

Harper, who hails from Atlanta, Ga., shot an even 72 with three birdies, including consecutive birdies on No. 8 and No. 9, finishing seven strokes behind individual medalist Stefano Mazzoli (-10) of TCU, who is ranked 45th nationally.  Mazzoli led the field with a tournament record 65 on Tuesday for a three-round total of 70-71-65=206.

Junior Connor Bruns (E) finished in a tie for ninth after carding a 77 with birdies on No. 9 and No. 11 in the final round, while sophomore Scott Purvis (+4) scored a 74 with three birdies on Tuesday to tie for 16th.  Junior Garrison Hogan (+12) birdied three out of four holes from No. 5 through No. 8 to finish the day with a 75 and tie for 42nd, and sophomore Jake Reilly (+17) notched a final-round 77 with birdies on No. 5 and No. 17 to tie for 61st. 

"This was a very solid start to our spring season," said Furman head coach Todd Satterfield.  "Our play over the last two days should give us a lot of confidence moving forward."

No. 38 TCU (-11) won the tournament by one stroke over Georgia (-10).  The Paladins (-13) finished third, followed by Memphis (+26) in fourth.  Mercer (+26) and Radford (+26) tied for fifth.

Furman will compete at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate in Aiken, S.C., March 5-6.
