Harper Ties For Tenth To Lead Paladins At Palmetto Intercollegiate

AIKEN, S.C. -- Sophomore Keller Harper (+10) tied for tenth to lead the Furman men's golf team to a ninth-place finish Tuesday under rainy conditions in the final round of the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate at the par 70, 6,617 yard Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken, S.C.   

Harper, who hails from Atlanta, Ga., scored a 77 with a birdie on No. 10 to finish the day four strokes behind individual medalist Daniel Overas (-3) of Coastal Carolina, who won in a playoff over Georgia Southern's Jake Storey (-3).

Junior Connor Bruns (+8) tied for 28th after scoring a final-round 76 with birdies on No. 10 and No. 12.  Sophomore Scott Purvis (+12) and junior Garrison Hogan (+12) tied for 48th.  Hogan paced the Paladins with a 75 on Tuesday, and Purvis carded a 79 with birdies on No. 4 and No. 12.  Senior Hunter Nichols recorded a 77 with birdies on No. 10 and No. 14 to tie for 59th.

Virginia (E) won the tournament by nine strokes over Georgia Southern (+9).  USC Aiken (+15) finished third, followed by UAB (+16) in fourth, and East Carolina (+17) in fifth.  Memphis and Augusta (+19) tied for sixth, while Coastal Carolina (+20) was eighth.  The Paladins (+26) finished one spot ahead of SoCon foe Wofford (+40), who tied for tenth with Francis Marion (+40) and VCU (+40).  

Furman will compete at the John Hayt Intercollegiate in Ponte Vedra, Fla., March 18-19.
