Harper Leads Paladins In Opening Day Of Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate

AIKEN, S.C. -- Junior Keller Harper (-3) shot even par in round one and fired a 67 in Monday's second round to finish the day for sixth to lead the Furman (+19) men's golf team at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate at the par 70, 6,617 yard Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken, S.C.

Harper, a junior from Atlanta, Ga., notched a team-high five birdies, including back to back birdies on No. 17 and No. 18, in round one then paced the Paladins with six birdies in the second round to finish the day in a tie for sixth at three-under.  South Carolina's Will Miles (-11) leads the field by five strokes after tying the individual low round record with a 64 in round one and breaking the two-round record with a total of 64-65=129 in the opening day of play.

Junior Stephen Reynolds (+6) is tied for 44th entering Tuesday's final round after scoring a 75 with a birdie on No. 18 in round one and rebounding with a 71 with a birdie on No. 14 in the afternoon round.  Senior Connor Bruns (+7) carded a 76 with birdies on No. 1 and No. 4 in the morning round and scored four birdies, including consecutive birdies on No. 13 and No. 14, in round two, notching a 71 and tying for 51st.

Sophomore Jack Crosby (+9) enters Tuesday's round tied for 62nd.  He shot an 80 with a birdie on No. 14 in the first round then fired a 69 with an eagle on the par-5 No. 14 and two birdies in the afternoon.  Freshman Phil Jones (+5) is in 86th place after scoring an 80 with birdies on No. 4 and No. 8 in round one and tacking on a 77 in the day's second round.

No. 37 South Carolina (-23) smoked the field on Monday, setting both an 18-hole low score record of 268 and a 36-hole record of 268-269=537.  Virginia (-6) is 17 strokes back in second, followed by No. 13 Clemson (+1) in third.  Furman (+19) is in ninth place after two rounds of play.

The tournament will conclude with a 9 a.m. shotgun start on Tuesday.  Furman will begin on holes No. 7 through 9 and will play in a group with Charleston Southern and Wofford.  Admission is free and fans are welcome.  Results and live tournament scoring are available via http://www.Golfstat.com.
