Harper Posts Record-Setting Round Saturday At 50th Furman Intercollegiate; Paladins Tied For Second

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- After two rounds, junior Keller Harper (-9) is tied for the individual lead at the 50th Furman Intercollegiate, being held this weekend at the par-71, 6,984-yard Furman University Golf Course in Greenville, S.C.

Harper, a native of Atlanta, Ga., played bogey free golf on Saturday, firing a 63 to tie the tournament low round record, which was set in 2017 by Georgia Southern's Brett Barron.  He established a new low round record for the tournament's second round, breaking the previous low of 64, also set in 2017 by Ryan Cornfield of USC Upstate.  Harper is tied for the lead with Wes Artac (-9) of Coastal Carolina.  The duo holds a two-round score of 133, tying the tournament best.

Coastal Carolina (-7) led the field with a 279 on Saturday to take a six-shot leading into the final round.  Furman (-1) and Davidson (-1) are tied for second, followed by Virginia Tech (+5) in fourth place.  Minnesota (+8) completes the top five.

"Our goal was to play a solid round today and get ourselves back into a good position for tomorrow, and we accomplished that." said Furman head coach Matt Davidson.  "Keller's round was spectacular. The course was not playing easy, and 63 was a fantastic round."

Paladin senior Connor Bruns (+1) and junior Stephen Reynolds (+1) are tied for 14th entering Sunday's final round.  Bruns shot an even 71 with three birdies on Saturday, while Reynolds fired a 69 with three birdies to move up the leader board.  Senior Scott Purvis (+6) carded a 75 with three birdies, including consecutive birdies on No. 6 and No. 7, tying for 45th, and senior Raj Ghosh (+10) recorded a 76 with three birdies to tie for 78th.

Furman has seven individuals in the field.  Sophomore Jack Crosby (E) shot an even 71 for the second-consecutive day, carding four birdies, including back to back birdies on No. 14 and No. 15, tying for eighth.  Junior Matt Lehman (+3) is tied for 18th after scoring a 72 with consecutive birdies on No. 14 and No. 15.

Senior Garrison Hogan (+3) notched a 72 with a birdie on No. 2 to tie for 24th, and rookie Phil Jones (+7) scored a 74 with birdies on No. 5 and No. 15, tying for 51st.  Freshman Owen Burden added a 79 with a birdie on No. 3 in Saturday's round and enters the final round tied for 83rd.  Senior Jake Reilly (+11) recorded four birdies on Saturday, tallying a 75 to also tie for 83rd, and freshman Nathan Norfleet (+19) posted an 84 with a birdie on No. 10 to tie for 110th.

The 54-hole tournament will conclude Sunday with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.  Furman will go off of holes No. 1 through No. 3 and will play in a group with Coastal Carolina, Davidson, and Virginia Tech.  Admission to the tournament is free and fans are welcome.  Results and live tournament scoring are available via http://www.FurmanPaladins.com and http://www.golfstat.com.
