Purvis Ties For 24th To Lead Paladins At Clemson Invitational

SALEM, S.C. -- Senior Scott Purvis (-3) tied for 24th place to pace the Furman (+10) mens' golf team this weekend at the Clemson Invitational at the par 72, 7,103 The Cliffs at Keowee Falls in Salem, S.C.

A native of Mason, Ohio, Purvis carded a 75 with three birdies, including consecutive birdies on No. 16 and No. 17, Sunday in the tournament's final round.  Junior Keller Harper (+2) tied for 38th after recording a 79 with three birdies Sunday, and senior Connor Bruns (+5) eagled the par-4 No. 10 and added birdies on No. 12 and No. 18 to finish with a 74 in the third round, tying for 50th. 

Sophomore Jack Crosby (+12) led the Paladins with a one-over 73 and a team-high five birdies on Sunday to tie for 68th, and junior Stephen Reynolds (+14) shot a 77 with three birdies in the final round to tie for 72nd.

Bryson Nimmer (-17) of Clemson won individual medalist honors by one stroke with a three-round total of 66-69-64=199.

No. 8 Georgia Tech (-52) won the tournament by 11 strokes over No. 9 Duke (-41).  No. 14 Georgia (-34) finished third, followed by 17th-ranked Clemson (-28) in fourth place.  Virginia (-22) completed the top five.  Furman (+10) finished in 11th place. 

Furman will compete at the Southern Conference Championships April 21-23 in Pinehurst, N.C.
