Greenville, S.C. – Games against four 2017 NCAA Tournament participants, including three teams that finished ranked in the top 10, highlight Furman's 2018 men's lacrosse schedule, Furman head coach Richie Meade announced today.
Following a record-breaking 2017 campaign in which the Paladins won a school-record seven games and earned a share of the SoCon regular season title, Furman hosts five games inside Paladin Stadium and plays eight games on the road, including three neutral-site contests.
"We're excited about our out-of-conference schedule," said Meade. "We're very fortunate that Vermont is going to come down and play us again. This will be the fifth-straight year that we'll take on the University of North Carolina and we're very excited to take on Denver in our home stadium."
"Taking on Sacred Heart at US Lacrosse and Canisius in Philadelphia is a big deal for us. Then, before we start our conference schedule, we're going to play Penn State in Washington, D.C. That's a challenging out-of-conference schedule."
"We're also looking to improve on our record in conference play. Overall, it's a very challenging schedule and we're looking forward to it."
Furman opens the regular season on February 1, hosting Vermont in Paladin Stadium, before traveling to Chapel Hill, N.C., for a February 10 matchup with North Carolina, which finished the season ranked #9 in the Inside Lacrosse Top-20 Poll.
The Paladins then head to Baltimore, Md., on February 17 to take on Sacred Heart at the US Lacrosse campus, before traveling to Philadelphia, Pa., to face Canisius on February 24 at Radnor High School.
The Paladins open March with a home matchup with the University of Denver on March 3. The Pioneers finished 2017 ranked #3 in the Inside Lacrosse Top-20 Poll. Furman then closes out the non-conference portion of the 2018 schedule against final-season ranked No. 10 Penn State in Washington, D.C.
Furman returns to Paladin Stadium to open SoCon play against Richmond on March 17, before hitting the road for back-to-back conference matchups with VMI and Mercer on March 24 and 31, respectively.
The Paladins play host to High Point inside Paladin Stadium on April 7, before traveling to Air Force for an April 14 matchup. Furman closes out the home portion of the 2018 season on April 21 against Jacksonville, before taking on Bellarmine in a road test on April 28 to end the season.
The Southern Conference Tournament will be held May 3 & 5 in Richmond, Va.
