Greenville, S.C. -- Furman incoming freshmen Trevor Haberkorn has been named to head coach Javier Perez's 18-player United States U-18 National Team roster for the 31st Northern Ireland Milk Cup, which is set to take place July 29 - August 2.
Haberkorn, who will join his Furman teammates for preseason camp in less than a month, departed for Belfast, Northern Ireland, with the U.S. U-18 squad on Monday evening. The team will train together for a week before taking on CONCACAF rival Mexico on Monday, July 29, in the first of the squad's three matches. The U-18's will face host Northern Ireland on July 31 before squaring off with Denmark on August 2.
"I am very excited about this trip and honored to be representing Furman on the U.S. National Team," said Haberkorn.
A center back who has previously logged playing time with both the United States' U-17 and U-18 squads, Haberkorn netted five goals in 21 matches for Solar Chelsea SC during the 2012-13 season en route to earning Central Conference Starting XI honors. He helped his squad finish second in the Frontier Division with a 17-7-6 mark. Haberkorn was tabbed as the No. 25 player in the class of 2013 by College Soccer News and was rated No. 12 by Top Drawer Soccer. The Keller, Texas, native and USCAA All-American is one of only two college players on the 18-man roster for the United States.
Haberkorn is among a large group of Paladins to earn time with the United States Youth National Teams over the years, including Clint Dempsey, Ricardo Clark, Walker Zimmerman, Gray Griffin and Matt Goldsmith.
