Greenville, S.C. – Furman rookies Trevor Haberkorn and Bobby Edet were named to the Top Drawer Soccer Freshman Best XI, and Edet was named to the College Soccer News All-Freshman Third Team, it was announced this week.
Haberkorn, a Keller, Texas, native, was named first team Top Drawer Soccer Freshman Best XI after helping to guide Furman to an 11-5-2 record in 2013. The center back anchored a Paladin defense that surrendered just 14 goals in 18 matches and notched 10 shutouts on the season. He scored his lone goal of the campaign on a header versus Georgia Southern. A member of the United States U-20 National Team, Haberkorn garnered second team All-Southern Conference accolades and SoCon All-Freshman honors.
Edet, a native of Frisco, Texas, netted a team-high seven goals and added one assist in 18 matches to earn second team all-league honors, SoCon Freshman of the Year accolades and NSCAA All-South Region honors. A second team Top Drawer Soccer Freshman Best XI selection, the rookie forward scored four game-winning goals, including the deciding tally in the final minutes of a 1-0 victory against nationally-ranked Elon.
Haberkorn and Edet represented a Furman freshman class that ranked in the top five in the country and helped lead the Paladins to wins over three teams ranked in the top 25 during their rookie seasons.
