Greenville, S.C. -- Major League Soccer's FC Dallas selected Furman midfielder and Dallas, Texas, native Marco Carrizales with the 84th overall pick in the fourth round of the MLS SuperDraft on Tuesday afternoon.

Carrizales, who registered two assists this past season, played in 31 matches over two seasons and made 27 starts for the Paladins in the central midfield. He tallied two goals, including game-winners versus Winthrop and VMI, and added two assists as a junior to help Furman to its second straight Southern Conference Tournament title and second consecutive NCAA Tournament berth. The Liberty High School product was named to the All-SoCon Tournament Team in 2015.

Prior to joining the Furman squad, Carrizales played two seasons at SMU, where he made nine starts for the Mustangs. Carrizales played his club soccer for the FC Dallas Development Academy and helped his squad to the 2012 USSDA National Championship. He also participated in the U-15 and U-17 United States Youth National Team pools.

Carrizales joins an FC Dallas club that includes former Furman center back Walker Zimmerman, who is currently in training camp with the United States National Team.

Ten Paladins have been selected in the MLS SuperDraft since 2000. Midfielder Ricardo Clark was selected second overall in 2003 by the MetroStars, while Zimmerman was selected seventh overall in 2013 by FC Dallas and Clint Dempsey was the eighth overall selection by the New England Revolution in 2004. Former Paladins Clark, Zimmerman, Dempsey, San Jose winger Shea Salinas, and recent Atlanta United expansion draftee Alec Kann are currently playing in MLS.
